Presents “Juan Vespucci (1487 – ca. 1527) A Cosmographer, Seaman and Merchant at the Heart of Spanish Charting of the New World”.

Juan Vespucci (1487–c.1527), a lesser-known figure compared to his uncle Amerigo, served as a pilot in Seville’s Casa de la Contratación and was a merchant and map author. Through my PhD thesis, I interconnect his roles to unveil new insights into his life and its historical context. Archival research revealed his emigration, royal appointment, and involvement in significant expeditions, dispelling previous misconceptions about him. His merchant ventures and mapmaking shed light on Renaissance cartography, emphasizing the value of biographical analysis in historical study.
